Sustainability in Emerging Countries

This program is focused on sustainability in Oaxaca. Students will examine the increase in production and efficient use of non-renewable resources, ecological stewardship, economic improvement, and increases in quality of life in Oaxaca. Oaxaca is classified as one of the top three Mexican states in biodiversity including flora, terrestrial fauna, and marine fauna and is also one of the top states in the horticultural production of agave and organic coffee and is the origin of cultivated crops such as corn. Oaxaca is also a diverse cultural hub with pre-Hispanic influences of three indigenous communities (Zapotecos, Mixtecos, and Mazatecos), and post-Hispanic European and Asian influences, which as a whole, is reflected in the architecture, gardens, culinary and cultural diversity.
